Cyanuric Chloride(CYC)
Melamine (also known as trichloronitrile) is an organic compound. The following is an introduction to the properties, uses, production methods and safety information of melamine:
Nature:
Appearance: Melamine is a colorless crystalline solid.
Density: The density of melamine is approximately 1.42 grams per cubic centimeter.
Solubility: It has a low solubility in water but can dissolve in some organic solvents, such as ethanol and chloroform.
Purpose:
Synthetic fibers: Melamine is one of the important raw materials for synthetic fibers such as polyamide fibers and can be used to prepare nylon, polyamide fibers, etc.
Coatings and adhesives: Melamine can be used as a raw material for preparing polynitrile coatings and adhesives.
Chlorinating agent: Melamine has a strong chlorination effect and can be used to prepare other organic compounds or as a chlorinating agent.
Preparation:
The preparation of melamine is generally achieved by reacting chlorocyanic acid (ClCN) with sodium isocyanate (NaSCN) under acidic conditions. The reaction equation is as follows:
3ClCN + 3NaSCN → (CCl2N)3 + 3NaCl
Safety information
When using and handling melamine, personal protective equipment such as chemical protective gloves, glasses, goggles and protective clothing should be worn.
Melamine should be kept away from strong oxidants or flammable substances to prevent fire or explosion.
When storing or transporting melamine, it should be protected from high temperatures, open flames and direct sunlight.
Discarded melamine should be properly disposed of in accordance with local regulations to avoid environmental pollution.
