Dioctyl terephthalate (abbreviated as DOP) is a colorless and transparent liquid with low volatility and low solubility. It is a high-temperature stable lubricant that is soluble in organic solvents.

The main application of DOP is as a plastic additive, especially in the production of polyvinyl chloride (PVC). It can enhance the plasticity and flexibility of PVC, making it easy to process into products of various shapes. DOP is also used in industries such as cables, synthetic leather, rubber and coatings as a plasticizer and plasticizer.

The production method of DOP is usually through the esterification reaction of octanol and terephthalic acid. This reaction usually takes place in the presence of an acidic catalyst, such as sulfuric acid.

Safety information: DOP is relatively safe under normal usage conditions. When exposed to high temperatures, open flames or substances with too low an open flame point, DOP may catch fire. When handling and storing DOP, contact with fire sources should be avoided and good ventilation conditions should be maintained.
